Dr. Robert Howald Bio

Dr. Howald has over 20 years of experience in commercial and defense communications systems and equipment. Rob’s current role is in the CTO office at Motorola, working as a Customer Systems Architect within Motorola’s Home & Networks Mobility business. In that role, Rob works with MSO technologists to envision and develop network architectures and evolutionary paths to providing an increasing breadth of sophisticated and demanding broadband services to their customers. Prior to joining Motorola, Rob was the Vice President of Engineering at Xytrans, Inc., where he introduced that company’s first two RF technology products into the Telecommunications and Homeland Security marketplaces. Before Xytrans, Rob held the position of Director of Systems Engineering in Motorola’s Broadband Communications Sector. Rob led the development, analysis, and equipment specifications for broadband wired and wireless access systems, hybrid-fiber coax systems, fiber-to-the-premise systems, and LAN/WAN systems for digital video, data, and voice. Rob has also held system and design engineering positions at General Instrument Corporation, Lockheed Martin Space Systems, and GE Astro-Space. He has taught graduate courses in communications and wireless systems, has published over 150 papers, and has multiple patents issued or pending. Rob has a BSEE and MSEE from Villanova University, a PhD in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Drexel University, and an MBA from DeSales University.
