Richard Sandomir of The NY Times wonders why the nation’s first female announcer of a major sport, The Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman, didn’t apologize immediately on camera when she said during a telecast last Friday that one way to stop Tiger Woods’ dominance would be to “lynch him in a back alley.” Sandomir also asked Golf Channel President Page Thompson about it. He didn’t know either. Tilghman has been suspended for 2 weeks. [The NY Times]
Although he’s said repeatedly that a deal is brewing with HBO, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White is quoted today regarding a pact with “a big television network.” Currently UFC brawls are carried on Spike TV. [Fox Sports.com]
Things are so bad with the Writers Strike that few media outlets had stories about it, save that the Weinstein Co. signed an interim pact with the WGA. The deal is similar to one inked by David Letterman’s production company and Tom Cruise’s United Artists.
