Manny Martinez, Charter Communications VP and general manager in central California and Nevada tells Simon Applebaum about diversity activities in those areas.
CableWorld: What are the most important diversity initiatives that your systems have started in the past year?
Martinez: We’ve created a monthly "diversity" round table discussion, with employees from each department participating. In turn, they encourage their colleagues to participate in our community by stepping out of their comfort zones to volunteer with a variety of local groups and charitable organizations. And we’ve partnered with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and other local diversity organizations to match employment opportunities at Charter to their respective labor pools
CW: What's not happening with diversity now at your system that you want to implement this year?
Martinez: One of our most important goals is making certain that our employees reflect the diversity of our customers. And on a community-wide basis, I am working with a group of Latino business leaders to create a local Hispanic bank. We are also continuing to look for quality programs to meet the needs of our diverse market.
CW: Your favorite Nevada attraction besides Las Vegas?
Martinez: Without question it’s the beauty of the Northern Nevada area and of course the magnificence of Lake Tahoe. I must add that from the time I arrived here, the people of Northern Nevada have been wonderful. They have embraced me and my family and made us feel like an important part of this community.
