CableFAX Program Awards: Best Use of HD Technology
Winner: The NHL on HDNet, HDNet
Sure, hockey buffs get excited about a network that provides a flexible, fan-centric approach to covering their sport. So they’re cheering HDNet’s commitment to updating its NHL schedule every two months to ensure coverage of the most compelling matchups. HDNet started coverage of the 2007-08 season — the National Hockey League’s 90th — with an opening game between the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings, and kept pace on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the season. Although HDNet shares hockey with a handful of other nets, its coverage is always eyeball-grabbing, in-your-face intense, and it bests the others in continuously demonstrating why hi-def technology was tailor-made for sports coverage, particularly hockey. Clearly, we’re not alone in our praise. The NHL on HDNet was no doubt a factor in Comcast’s recent decision to add HDNet to its HD lineup.

Honorable Mention:
Kevin Dunn/Mike Grossman, World Wrestling Entertainment: It’s tough to find a more dramatic national arena for HD than the WWE ring. Dunn and Grossman’s unbridled excitement about how fantastic the coverage looks in hi-def is clearly contagious to all viewers.
