16. A Bright FutureBob Miron Title: Chairman/CEO, Advance/Newhouse Communications Age: “Old enough to collect Social Security.” Why him? Last year, Miron shared his ranking with two other influential CEOs. This year, we’re giving him his own spot because Bright House has really broken out of the pack. When J.D. Power’s annual ranking for customer’s phone service satisfaction came out earlier this year, Bright House was voted number one by customers in the Southeast. Cox and Time Warner Cable were the only other MSOs to win a regional award. Bright House has consistently been in the mix—joining four other MSOs to ask for interconnection conditions as part of the AT&T-BellSouth merger, taking part in the cable consortium’s $2.4bln bid for wireless licenses and announcing plans to launch wireless late this year in one market through the Sprint-Nextel partnership. It’s feats like these that consistently keep Miron and Bright House on our list. - AM Biggest cable surprise of 2006: “Several MSOs winning regional JD Power Awards for best wireline telephone service (including our company, which won for the Southeast region).” Top personal achievement in 2006: “Birth of 9th grandchild.” Favorite restaurant: “Heid’s - a hot dog stand in Liverpool, NY.” Three things I would take with me to a deserted island: “Primestar dish, Zing handheld, AOL dial-up.” Favorite sports team: Syracuse Orange I wish cable would: “Have my son now take over as head of NCTA Music Licensing Committee.” Favorite piece of tech: “Hearing aids.” Click here to return to the 2006 CFAX 100 List |
