30. The Premiums

Chris Albrecht

Title: Chairman/CEO, HBO
Age: 54
Years in Industry: 21
Years left in the industry: “39 (60 total years is a nice round number)”

Matthew C. Blank
Title: Chairman/CEO, Showtime Networks Inc
Age: 56
Years in Industry: 30

Robert Greenblatt
Title: President, entertainment, Showtime Networks, Inc.
Age: 47
Years in Industry: 19
Years left in the industry: “2, then I retire to Fiji”

Why them? Name a more buttoned-down media company than Time Warner. Yet through Michael Fuchs, Jeff Bewkes and now Chris Albrecht, HBO continues to set the standard for programming innovation. The winning streak that started with “The Sopranos” and “Sex in the City” has extended to “Deadwood,” “The Wire” and megahit “Entourage,” among others. Meanwhile, Showtime no longer exists in HBO’s shadow. Under Matt Blank and Robert Greenblatt’s expert direction, buzz-worthy “Weeds” and mini-series “Sleeper Cell” are bona-fide hits, turning Showtime into a vital destination for cable viewers (It’s no coincidence that Greenblatt helped develop little known projects like “Six Feet Under” and “The Sopranos” at HBO). Let’s hear it for the premiums! - MCA, CH
