43. Can’t Match the BratchSean BratchesTitle: EVP-sales and mktg, ESPN/Disney Age: 45 Years in Industry: 21 Why Him? The man responsible for ESPN’s two primary revenue streams—affiliate and ad sales—certainly deserves some accolades for raw influence. In fact, both metrics so impact the cable industry that a recent Kagan study included one table for ESPN economics and one for the economics of all other basic cable nets. The net’s license fee revenue has surged a staggering 159% since ’00, skewing the entire industry. It’s amazing that Bratches has any time for hobbies such as angling. But given his sales and marketing aplomb, he probably coerces the fish onto his line. - CH Defining career moment: “Leaving broadcast television for cable in the mid 1980s.” Person I most admire in the cable industry and why: “The sports fan — they just keep demanding more!” Biggest cable surprise of 2006: “The continued threat of legislative intervention in our business.” Top personal achievement in 2006: “Assembling a management team that is second to none in the industry.” Person (other than my current boss) who I’d most like to work for: Tom Murphy, the former Chairman of Capital Cities ABC In my free time, I like to: “Ski, golf, fish, play tennis/squash/paddle, hike… or anything else active with my four sons and bride.” Favorite line from a movie or TV show: “We need more cow bell!” – “Saturday Night Live” Three things I would take with me to a deserted island: “Fly rod, iPod and a boat.” Least favorite piece of tech: Slingbox Favorite restaurant: Peter Luger Favorite city: Stowe, Vermont Favorite song: “Are You Ready for Some Football?” Favorite TV show: “Sportscenter” Favorite movie: “Slapshot” Favorite sports team: New York Yankees Favorite piece of tech: “High-definition television and my iPod.” Least favorite piece of tech: Slingbox Click here to return to the 2006 CFAX 100 List. |
