Joint CDN Offering Could Mean Money For Wireless Carriers

Saguna Networks, an Israel-based provider of Radio Access Network (RAN) application acceleration and mobile content delivery on HSPA and LTE networks, is working with Dutch Content Delivery Network (CDN) developer Jet-Stream to create federated CDN solutions for wireless networks.

The two companies say they will combine Saguna Networks’ Saguna CODS for optimizing the delivery cost of Web content and applications over wireless networks and Jet-Stream’s VideoExchange CDN technology. Using this joint offering, wireless operators can leverage their RAN investments into an “intelligent network” that can manage and deliver content to subscribers directly from the network edge.

“This innovative solution offers new monetization opportunities for mobile network operators and creates a CDN network that delivers valuable quality of experience that matters to content owners and subscribers,” the partners explain.

Comments Saguna CEO Lior Fite, “The integration with the Jet-Stream federated CDN solution is creating new dimension for content delivery over mobile networks. Mobile operators using our joint solution can now actively participate in the OTT market and offer CDN services that guarantee the best possible view experience for subscribers.”

In separate but related news, Juniper Networks and BitGravity Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of India's Tata Communications) inked a definitive agreement under which Juniper will acquire rights to the service-management layer of BitGravity's CDN technology. Financial terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.
