XCast Expands EMTA Provisioning

XCast Labs announced automatic provisioning capability for the full line of ARRIS embedded multi-media terminal adapters (EMTAs).

The voice over IP (VoIP) specialist also announced that New York City-based Private Network Cable (PNC) Television has selected it for its digital phone launch. PNC passes some 20,000 potential multiple dwelling units (MDUs) subscribers.

“We plan to roll out the PNC digital voice product across our entire New York City footprint,” said Wayne Gordon, PNC director of engineering, in a statement.

The company’s enhanced capability with ARRIS speaks to the rise of business telephony.

“We’ve been able to provision the two-port (EMTAs)…in any type of scale since mid last year,” XCast CEO Cliff Rees said. “Now some cable operators are moving into the business marketplace. They need 4, 8, 12 ports.”

Rees said that provisioning the larger one is “much trickier” than provisioning the smaller EMTAs on account of more features and settings. XCast already provides a hosted VoIP service to nearly 20 cable operators across the U.S.

The company said that most operators deploying the service have chosen ARRIS as their EMTA device provider. The combination of a hosted model and provisioning expertise drives rapid speed to market.

“We’ve literally brought people up in 10 days,” Rees said. “As opposed to months or years.”

XCast is making its announcement from the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) Winter Educational Conference in Long Beach, CA, which begins today.
