SCTE's President Search
With former SCTE President/CEO John Clark's departure on July 4, the SCTE is now faced with finding a new boss. The first step was the appointment of Marv Nelson, SCTE vice president of professional development, as interim president/CEO. Next came the formation of an executive search committee, headed by Frank Eichenlaub, newly appointed chairman of the Society's Membership Committee.
Here are Chairman of the SCTE Board Tom Gorman's comments about the search.
How's the search going thus far? At what stage is it?
To date, the search committee has been meeting and has developed a "candidate profile." We are reviewing that with our advisory council (made up of CTOs from a number of MSOs) to make sure that there is alignment.
What qualifications are you looking for? What does the ideal candidate look like?
This gets wrapped up in the candidate profile. We know that the right person must be multi-faceted regarding industry involvement, engineering, business acumen, and association leadership, among others.
Are you soliciting resumes, or approaching particular people? Some of each?
We have received some resumes, but are not soliciting. We intend to make use of an executive search firm to filter through the resumes and seek out other qualified candidates.
Have you a "short list" of people you'd like to have?
We have worked very hard to go into this process with our eyes wide open, so while many in the industry are "playing chess" on which moves should be made, we want to make sure that we look at this in a manner that gets the best person to serve the Society.
Are you still shooting for the end of the year to have a new president in place?
That is our stated desire.
