Amino Selects Sun's JavaFX TV Platform

Amino Communications plans to offer Sun Microsystems' JavaFX TV platform in its next generation IPTV set-top boxes (STBs) to enable the creation of rich interactive content. Because JavaFX TV supports online and mobile platforms, content authors can take their applications beyond TV to target multiple screens. JavaFX TV is built on the same family of Java technologies as the Blu-ray Disc standard (BD-J) and tru2way.

“For the first time, we are able to offer our customers the chance to take advantage of a fast-growing community of third-party application developers,” said Dominique Le Foll, CTO, Amino Communications, in a statement.

In other news, Amino and beeTV have teamed up to develop a recommendation-based personalized TV experience, via Amino’s range of set-top boxes (STBs) and beeTV's Personal Content Channel (PCC) technology. The PCC is a set of proprietary, contextual recommendation algorithms that identify the viewers’ habits, tastes and viewing history. The PCC, which resides on the STB, gathers suitable recommendations from all content sources, including broadcast TV, subscription TV, VOD and PVR/Catch-up and pushes it to each individual viewer as a personalized channel.
