Barbara Jaffe Wins 2009 Women in Technology Award

Barbara Jaffe, SVP, Advanced Technology and Operations, for Home Box Office has been named the honoree of the 2009 Women in Technology Award. Sponsored by Bright House Networks, this award is presented in partnership with Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and Communications Technology magazine.
 
Created in 1995 to recognize and honor leading women technology professionals, the annual Women in Technology Award acknowledges the achievements of one woman who has demonstrated outstanding personal and professional growth and significantly contributed to the cable telecommunications industry.
 
The 2008 winner, Cyndee Everman, VP, Business Support Systems with Time Warner Cable, will present the 2009 Women in Technology Award during the Annual Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2009, in Denver. The 2009 Women in Technology Award recipient also will be the subject of an upcoming Communications Technology magazine cover story. (For last year's profile on Everman, click here).
 
In addition to Everman, past recipients of the award have been Carolyn Terry, Vicki Marts, Charlotte Field, Nomi Bergman, Marcie Anderson, Christy Martin, Sabrina Calhoun, Margaret Gaillard, Sally Kinsman, Sheri Sharp, Yvette Gordon-Kanouff, Pam Nobles, and Pam Arment.
 
Since 2001, Jaffe's responsibilities at HBO have included overseeing the network’s technical relationships with its distributors and the technologies used to distribute the HBO services. She also directs the assessment of new consumer technologies and opportunities which have potential for distributing HBO's programs and manages the project planning, implementation and operations of new initiatives. In addition, Jaffe is responsible for the development and acquisition of HBO’s major distribution and security technologies such as digital compression, encryption, and satellites, and is a significant contributor to the development of HBO’s positions in relevant FCC and legislative initiatives.
