Cass Cable Cuts Over To MPEG-4

Ill.-based Cass Cable TV Inc. has migrated to digital-video provider Avail-TVN’s MPEG-4 linear television service. As of February 1, the rural cableco’s MPEG-2 service has been replaced with a complete, hosted MPEG-4 video solution, including SD and HD programming.

Avail-TVN says it delivers more than 300 SD and HD linear channels plus more than 16,000 hours of video-on-demand content from its Super Head End in Burbank, Calif.

“We wanted a way to deliver a superior television experience to our subscribers while increasing efficiency and reducing overhead,” explains Tom Allen, Cass Cable’s COO. “By working with Avail-TVN, we were able to move to a robust, cost-effective MPEG-4 solution that allows us to better use existing bandwidth to deliver next-generation services such as TV Everywhere as well as additional programming options.”
