High-Def Video Over Cat 6 Twisted Pairs

A just-released Video Distribution System (VDS) from TE Connectivity lets network managers deliver high-definition RF and IP video over an existing data cabling infrastructure without adding coaxial cabling or RF tuning.

VDS transmits cable, satellite, in-house video, digital signage, electronic bulletin boards or any other service normally video delivered over coaxial systems over a Category 6-or-higher twisted-pair infrastructure. “The VDS eliminates the need for a separate coaxial infrastructure or the need for an RF technician to install it,” TE Connectivity explains.

The TE Connectivity VDS solution is TIA-568/ISO 11801-compliant and supports full-spectrum video (862 MHz) as far as 295 feet or 550 MHz as far as 328 feet. The plug-and-play system uses self-adjusting baluns to provide amplification and equalization, and output and input levels are adjusted to provide HD video at the TV set. According to the manufacturer, “The system automatically adjusts the headend signal for proper system operation and thereby eliminates the need for manual tuning by solving equalization and balancing issues traditionally associated with coaxial systems.”
