Take Your Wi-Fi Broadband Router On The Road

Next-gen mobile broadband/networking solutions provider Greenpacket is marketing a portable Wi-Fi router dubbed WN Wi-Fi Network Extender, featuring a blend of USB and Ethernet ports that allow users to plug in a WiMAX USB dongle or wired ADSL gateway to deliver Wi-Fi connectivity to multiple Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

The patent-pending WN Wi-Fi Network Extender supports hostless 4G wireless USB devices, which includes the current WiMAX technology and the up-and-coming 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology as well. It combines 802.11n wireless connectivity that amplifies high-speed indoor experience, providing users with speeds as fast as 300 Mbps (six times faster than a conventional 802.11g wireless network, the company says). 

The router can work in four implementation scenarios:

>>  As a portable travel router that creates an instant hot spot anywhere;
>>  Linking multiple WN Wi-Fi Network Extenders into a wireless mesh network that can address the issue of “dead” and “deep” coverage zones;
>> As a part of  home networking, it enables shared Wi-Fi for WiMAX USB dongles or broadband wireline gateways indoors or out; and
>> It allows SOHOs or SMBs to interconnect shared networking equipment, like network printers or shared storage servers.
