Comcast Plans Widget Tests

Comcast is working with Intel Corp to bring Internet protocol (IP)-based, interactive applications to the television screen.

The technology, previewed at Intel's Fall Developer Conference this week, is an open software development framework that enables combinations of IP applications and television experience through a widget-based user interface. Comcast and Intel expect to begin integration testing in the first half of 2009.

Called the Widget Channel framework, the technology will reside on Comcast's tru2way-based interactive program guide.
