Deals Of The Day 11/20/12
Cisco is committing $1.2 billion in cash and retention-based incentives to buy the entire business and operations of San Francisco-based cloud networker Meraki; the deal should close in the second quarter of Cisco’s FY2013. The global Meraki offers midmarket customers on-premise networking solutions that can be centrally managed from the cloud, expanding Cisco’s network offerings by providing scalable solutions. Meraki, founded by members of MIT’s Laboratory for Computer Science, also supports BYOD, guest networking, application control, WAN optimization, application firewall and other advanced networking services…With a million-dollar check, Germany’s ADVA Optical Networking now owns a 10-percent stake in Saguna Networks and its Content Optimization Delivery Systems (CODS) technology. According to ADVA, Saguna Networks' approach to optimizing content delivery in mobile backhaul infrastructures focuses on transporting content directly from the mobile network base station straight to subscribers by loading the integrated cache servers in the cellsite gateway or network interface device with popular content; this helps to ensure that mobile users can access the data from the base station cache servers instead of being directed to the main cache servers in the mobile core.
