This Technology Bridges Broadband Ad Servers With MSO Networks

This Technology is developing a plug-in for its SpotLink interconnect software that supports the full functionality of broadband ad server company FreeWheel’s Monetization Rights Management (MRM).

 Programmers that have already deployed FreeWheel’s MRM will have the ability to manage ad insertion on any MSO platform with near-term focus on video on demand (VOD) and network DVR (nDVR) ads, using their existing FreeWheel systems.

"This is taking one major player, FreeWheel, and providing a commercial plug-in for connecting their ad serving system into a VOD and nDVR environment," said This Technology CEO Jeffrey Sherwin. “Programmers use a company like FreeWheel to help them manage their ads online. What we're doing is getting actual decisions from Freewheel and translating them into the video service provider environment.”

This Technology’s standards-based SpotLink connects SCTE 130-compliant dynamic ad insertion systems to broadband ad servers. The new plug-in will incorporate all of the features and functionality offered by FreeWheel's MRM, while still remaining compatible with SCTE-130, with key features to include:

  •
Commercial break pattern control to adjust ad load and “age” a show from TV Everywhere C3/C8 catch-up measurement windows into “online” ad models and monetization;
  •
“TV-like” ad choreography over the length of a video play-out that contemplates commercial break pods and position;
  •
Advertiser industry and category exclusives by show and/or pod; and
  • Advanced metrics and inventory forecasting.

This Technology’s plug-in for FreeWheel will be licensed to programmers that want to interface with any MSO using SpotLink and This Technology’s ad decision service router. The result is the unification of ad decision-making and reporting. For MSOs, the flow of subscriber data information that influences ad decisions is fully protected and controlled.
