Telcos Tap Trend to Use Personal Devices for Work

Following on the heels of a similar announcement from AT&T, Verizon Wireless today said it has partnered with VMware to introduce to the market VMware Horizon Mobile, enabling Verizon Wireless business subscribers to toggle between work applications and personal applications on a single Android device. VMware Horizon Mobile will provide a way for IT departments to securely provision, manage and de-provision a corporate mobile workspace (email, applications, data, etc.) to an employee’s Android device over-the-air, while enabling the employee to retain the privacy and control of his personal mobile environments. Using VMware Horizon Mobile, IT departments will be able to access and leverage the more than 250,000 applications available in the Android Market.

“‘Bringing your own device into the enterprise is an increasingly important and challenging dynamic in today’s enterprises,” said Janet Schijns, vice president/Business Solutions Group, Verizon Wireless, in a statement.

To bring this solution to the market, Verizon Wireless and VMware are working with a growing ecosystem of partners. Among these various partners, LG Electronics will be one of the first to offer mobile devices, tested and ready for use with VMware Horizon Mobile on the Verizon Wireless network. Solutions using VMware Horizon Mobile are expected to be available on Verizon Wireless smartphones in the coming months.
