Can you give us an update on the launch of One America News Network?
We’re focused on three fronts, namely facilities expansion, content production and distribution. Additional production studios are under construction in our San Diego facility and our Washington, DC, production operations. New uplink operations were completed in January with test feeds being continuously transmitted. A number of signature shows are being produced and our news group is producing content on a daily basis preparing for launch. Although there remains a number of key tasks on the checklist prior to launch, we’ve launched a new channel before and we’re feeling cautiously optimistic at this point.
Tell us about the partnership with The Washington Times. What role will it play once the network is launched?
We’ve formed a wonderful working relationship with The Washington Times. We knew we needed Washington, DC-based production facilities. We’ve leased offices and production studios inside The Washington Times building, which is about three miles from the Capitol Building. In addition, The Washington Times has a large staff of reporters. [It] will complement existing news package sources, including Reuters and the Associated Press, especially for investigative reporting and our political talk shows. You’ll see One America News Network announce more strategic partnerships with other content and news providers.
How do you position One America? How do you differentiate the network from other nets?
We’ve spent a lot of time reviewing data on what is and is not working for viewers seeking national and international news on television. The data shows nearly a third of viewers have turned away from national news outlets because they no longer provide a source for credible news. News story packages from some cable news networks have dropped in half over the last five years, replaced by commentary and opinion based “reporting.” The historical division between news and commentary has become increasingly blurred, with the anchor-injected commentary becoming part of the news story. We’ll differentiate One America News Network from other cable news networks by returning to a more traditional model—a more credible news model based on facts with substance. Political talk shows will be clearly delineated from our news programs with different hosts. Our talk shows will lean center to right. Today, viewers have only one choice for such commentary, namely Fox News, off-set by a plethora of left leaning news outlets.
What is the new net’s target demo?
We’re targeting viewers interested in a credible source of fact based news with substance delivered around the clock. It’s a very broad audience. Our political talk shows, which provide a platform to independents and all voices under the conservative umbrella, target a large majority of the political ideological spectrum.
