EspnW.com Launches Digital Video Series
By Kaylee Hultgren
Female-focused espn.W.com launched weekly digital video series “The Word” on Thursday, in which female journalists talk topical sports issues via a roundtable discussion. Upcoming guests include commentators Julie Foudy and Jemele Hill, writers Sarah Spain and Jane McManus and anchors Prim Siripipat and Cassidy Hubbarth.
Topics on the roster: female pro sports (can they succeed?), female athletes exploiting their sexuality to boost branding (when is it too much?) and the proper etiquette for reacting to a loss. Yes, we’re talking the New England Patriots’ big Super Bowl loss, and the words of a certain quarterback’s lovely other half—Victoria’s Secret model Gisele Bundchen.
Segments will be aired 2-3 times per week, each running 3-5 minutes. “Think ESPN’s SportsCenter meets ABC’s The View,” said espnW editor-in-chief Tina Johnson in a release. “We’ll offer a fresh perspective and insight on topics of the day that both engages and enlightens our audience.”
