Patton SBC Features SIP Mediation

Patton has announced its SmartNode 5200 enterprise session border router (ESBR).

The device—an enhanced session border controller (SBC)—provides “any-to-any” protocol mediation for secure connectivity between IP-PBX systems and Internet telephony service providers

The company said the SmartNode resolves security and interoperability challenges businesses face when implementing SIP trunking. It includes an advanced IP router, QoS, VoIP-VPN security, least-cost call routing and IP-link redundance, with no added licensing or support fees.

“SIP trunking has entered the mainstream,” said John Wu, VoIP product manager, in a statement. One upshot, however, is “major interop issues and serious security holes.”

Wu stated that Patton’s SmartNode addresses those challenges, without any hidden costs.

According to research firm Infonetics, SIP trunking services will see an 89 percent revenue growth by 2013.
