RCN Picks BigBand

RCN Corp. has selected the BigBand Networks Broadband Multimedia-Service Router 1200 (BMR) for its digital TV simulcast deployments in RCN's Boston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia/Eastern Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., metro area markets.

RCN's conversion to an all-digital network is intended to improve picture quality, make the network easier to maintain, and increase the number of SD and HD channels it can offer. The conversion, dubbed "Analog Crush," will allow RCN to offer its customers over 300 SD channels and 75 HD channels initially, in addition to a more robust lineup of international content and on-demand titles.
