It’s good to be in the encoder business these days. With the expansion of TV Everywhere, programmers like Fox, Disney/ABC and HBO, which have always purchased some video encoders for primary distribution, have increased their investments in multiformat encoders/transcoders that support direct to consumer distribution, according to Sam Rosen, practice director at ABI Research. As a result of TVE adoption, he said the burden of content delivery is shifting. Here’s what that means for programmers, MSOs and the encoder/transcoder business.
