Analysts Project FMC Access Points
Analysts at ABI Research are projected 103 million global fixed-mobile convergence points by 2013.
Market introductions by T-Mobile in the U.S. and Orange in France have led to significant penetration of unlicensed mobile access (UMA)-based Wi-Fi dual-mode solutions. Sprint's US nationwide plan to use its branded Airave femtocel solution is another approach.
"We expect cellular-based femtocells to have taken over the baton from UMA- and SIP-based Wi-Fi solutions by 2013, seizing 62 percent of the market," VP and research director Stuart Carlaw said in a statement.
